Calumet Park, Chicago,IL --- Sprint, Sprint ....Points, Points!
That just about sums it up. Three days of racing and I earned my upgrade points for Cat3. I was determined. I went into these races feeling tired after 3 very hard weeks of training and the ABD TT 9K hill climb event.
Monday, coming off the lake, conditions where cold and windy. At the start line, 24 women lined up. It was great to have new faces out there. I attacked once, no one followed. I dropped back and thought to myself, I can win this in the sprint. Last lap, half way mark, I hit it hard and sprinted solo for a 1st place finish.
Tuesday, not as windy and warmer conditions. Decided to do the same, sprint to win. This time 2 other cat3 women raced. With this race, I knew something would go down different this time with the P5 team. Race started. A few more attacks where thrown out there. Last lap, half way mark, I hit it again. Sure enough, just as I thought, a P5 team player comes by hanging behind Cutting Crews wheel. I shifted gears and sprinted harder for a 2nd place finish.
Wednesday, feeling the mental strain and tiredness from not sleeping well. This race I practiced attacks. Last lap, p5 and I hammered it out to the finish line by seconds I missed it.
I finished 3rd place.
Thank you to Half Acre Cycling team for putting on another great series of races. Good luck to everyone this year. Congratulations to all those new women that came out. It takes courage and determination to put yourself out there every day like you did.
Keep it Rockin!
Next ----- rest and recover. ---- Hillsboro Road Race .... here I come!
