Finally warm weather in November! Rode 55 miles on Saturday and 45 miles on Sunday and I was able to get out and be a "spectator" at the Northbrook cross race on Sunday. It was FUN! I had to see what all this cyclocross stuff was all about. I rode my bike to the race and took in the 70 degree sunny day too. Of course everyone had to ask " Are you Racing?" A few people offered there bikes for me to ride. Tempting but ...no thanks. Not this year anyways. I first asked Jason if they needed any volunteers and then I headed out to look at the course. It was amazing to see how the racers took the turns and jump over the "barriers". They had a sand pit and a brutal downhill turn section that everyone kept wiping out on because the grass was wet. Major discussions at the race took place about what tire pressure one was using, how much mud or sand was on your bike and how are you going to take the sand pit area. The sand pit area was very fun to watch. Lots of wipe outs! Congrats to all the women that raced. I was really impressed by all your efforts. I have the up most respect for all of you going out there and doing cycleocross.
Congrats Leah, Molly, Cathy, Kristen and Janette and ABDer's Way to go!!!
I do think "cycleocross racers are bit on the "strange" side though....just kidding!
Janette, Is this what cross racing does to you?
After I got home on Sunday. I took out my mountain bike from "High School" That's right.... from high school!!! My 1st bike I ever owned. My mother bought it at the Wheel Thing in LaGrange for my birthday. It is a purple "Gary Fisher" mountain bike. Here is a picture of it. I just stood there and admired it. I got a little sentimental ... a few tears came out. I plan on seeing what it might cost to put on some new tires, a new chain and cassette. I would really love to take it for a spin.
Holidays coming up ... happy thanksgiving to all of you.
