ABR Mississippi Bluff Road Race

ABR Illinois State Road Race Championship was held on Sat July 18th. during superweek and among other big races this past weekend. I couldn't pass up a road race and decided to take the 2.5 hr trip to Rapids City, IL. Our race started a little late around 11:35 a.m. It was a 30mile course with some rolling hills. After riding the course, I saw only 4 women line up, one of which was Debbie Dust and about 50 men. They raced us all together with the men's masters fields. We where racing in our own category anyways. We had about 40 of us together. I was very disappointed more women did not attend. I knew I had to make the best of it and have fun. Race started and I was considering taking Debbie's wheel but decided to hang back in the pack. Not a smart move on my part. I did end up losing the pack and hung out with 5 other men. We where not far from the pack and we should have bridged up but we didn't communicate that to each other so we just took turns taking pulls. I felt strong and I did have a good workout but I truely was not mentally foused in this race as I should have been. Well, it's time to move onward to some criterium racing and TT's.
