Saturday, April 24th. Steady rain. Got to the start line, feeling cold and wet but that didn't matter. Big puddles of water formed on the course, but I wasn't concerned about that either. I heard the others complaining. I kept my focus on one thing. " Racing with what's inside my heart" Meaning? I know I've got what it takes to compete so have fun and believe in my abilities and strenghts. So often I forget, and need to reflect before races on why I race. It reminds me of why I'm out there on these kinds of days too.
About 15 women lined up. A really strong Junior women rider from IS corp was racing with us too. I had talked with her mother for a while. Race started. I shot out right away in front. I wanted this to be a faster pace race. I picked up the pace on the climbs. For the most part, I was up front for most of the time. There where 2 other pretty good climbers that came up front with me during the last 15 mins. However, I could tell they where tiring, with 2 laps to go. I decided to conserve a little. I knew I could sprint to win this race. Last lap, I did great on the descents. I picked up speed and hit the climb.
The others where tiring!! Ding, Ding, Ding!!.... time to hit it. I got up the hill, then a false flat then up another climb. I was up front taking full lead ahead with a very small gap. I saw the Junior rider coming up. Good climber she was! I sprinted and 1st place finish!! .....and the little mountain goat wins the race!
Pictures and Full results coming soon.....
Nice win for you! You earned it!
