It was a foggy morning as I headed down to the state race, only 15mins from my house. I watch the men's A & B races at 8:00 a.m. I was pre-registered for the women's cat4. However, I was tempted to race the masters women's. I decided to save my fuel for the cat4 and for the 4 person TT on Sunday with the BH team. About 8 women raced in the masters race. The men's A & B races where fun to watch. Congratulations to Brian Sielski on placing 5th in the A race and Gary Kula 10th place.
The women's cat 4 race took off at 11:45 a.m. It started right on time. About 15 women lined up for the race. I took front position at the start. There where about 3 or 4 riders that I hadn't rode with before. Instead of attacking at the start, I decided to stay conservative. The race was slow and very conservative. Only 4 of us took turns taking pulls. The rest of the pack stayed behind. I was very frustrated. I should have thrown out some attacks to get it going. The last lap was still slow. As we approached the start finish line, I decided to hit it. I knew riders where on my wheel but not many... I think. I hit it hard up the hill. I saw only 2 riders where in back of me. As we came to the false flat. I kept my pace strong. The next hill to the finish approached. I saw a rider pacing next to me. I got up and decided to attack (maybe to soon). I geared into a harder gear. I pushed down on my right foot. I heard a snap, crack and then pop. Major pain set in on the front of my knee cap. I started to cry. The pain was so bad. I geared into a lighter gear. I let the field pass me. I called out injury... injury .... I passed the finish line. I made a right turn onto the road. I thought I could ride out the pain. I then saw Kristen Meshberg in her car. I yelled out injury please help me. She took me in her car down to the medical area. I iced it. They did an examination. Everything is going to be o.k. I think. My knee cap is a little sore. Its all rest and recovery rides for me now. Thank you Molly, Janette, Leah, John, Brian, Kristen, Anne, and anyone else I missed ..... thank you for helping me out after the race.
All in all, I think its been a pretty good year for me. I did 12 USCF races placing in the top 10 and 18 ABR races. Total of 8 wins this years. Its been fun and looking forward to racing with my new team!!.. Thanks to every one who came out and supported me at the state race and this year. I'm still considering racing fall fling .... we shall see.
