July 5th 2009 - ABR State Championship Criterium - Wood Dale, IL.
After seeing rain all day on July 4th, I was very happy to see the sun and the Wood dale course. I knew the course very well and loved how fast it was. Nice corners and just a little upgrade in the road as you round the corner to the finish line. I think, 10 women lined up. Again my pal Janette Rho never fails me... shows up.. happy to see her, I knew this was going to be a good race. I also had a chance to meet more ABD er's. They talked briefly about a strategy with me. After they called off who was in what category, I knew that it was going to come down to Janette and I in the end.
Race started a bit slow. I then saw Jessie Prinner out front. Janette took off after her. So I made a decision to go after her since she was my competition. I bridged up to them. I took her and Jessie's wheel. We worked together taking pulls throughout the entire race. The last lap, we came upon the field, just before the finish line. We sprinted around the field. I followed Jessie's wheel and took my sprint. I had seen Janette take her sprint on the other side of the field. I geared down one more gear to gain power and crossed the line. Thinking that Janette came in 2nd after Jessie. I was happy to come in 3rd overall. I was very excited and had such a great time racing. After the race, they posted results and somehow that extra push at the end, brought me in 2nd place overall and the State Champ Jersey. In the end, I love this sport and love the people I race with. I had fun and will always keep that attitude with me no matter if it was a win for me or not this day.
